WORLD DANCING

September 30, 2008

Like Steph, I’d never heard of this guy before.  His most recent video is amazing.  The music helps.  I nearly teared up watching it.  But my favourite little detail is on his FAQ on his website.  Check it out:

LESS FAQ

This other video about how he got people to dance with him is also really neat.

ORU LAWSUIT: HUDDLESTON’S GOT TWO WEEKS

September 27, 2008

A district judge in Tulsa came close to dismissing Huddleston’s lawsuit accusing former Oral Roberts University officials of financial wrongdoing, but instead gave Huddleston two weeks to present or acquire more facts to support his case, according to NewsOK.com and the TulsaWorld.

And here’s a little financial update on ORU from kjrh.com.

McGRIDDLE’S POINTS

September 26, 2008

Just for reference, I thought I’d post the WW points value for the McD’s McGriddles.  My daily points value is 20.  Just one of these is more than half of my daily needs!

MY HOPE TOO

September 24, 2008

Here’s a lovely song, via my friend Darren, about MySpace.

TRAILERS

FROST/NIXON – Whoa.

ELITE SQUAD – Double whoa.

DOC MARTENS RETURN!

September 18, 2008

I was at the Galleria recently and popped into Forever 21 for a fashion fix (what kind of specific fix, I’m not sure), and I was shocked (but eventually happy) to see these boots (pictured left) sitting proudly on the display shelf!

No; they’re not Dr. Martens; but they sure look similar!  Now I’m glad that I never threw mine out.  I’ve still got my classic 8-eye, leather upper, chucky-soled AirWairs!  Isn’t there just something tremendously wonderful about this classic boot?!

Ryan still has his “pair-o-docs-ical” footwear as well.  We’ll be clever-cool when we go to the Knitting Factory to hear sole-ful folk rock in our retro boots from the ’90s!

For those of you who exclaim, “What’s the big deal, Gillian?  I’ve been wearing my Docs for years even when they weren’t in style!”  I retort, “Good for you.  I’m glad that you have devotion to the little things.  After you’re done reengaging with culture, let’s go have some Pinkberry.  Or maybe a double-nonfat-moccachino.  If you’re into that sort of thing…”

FASHIONISTA?

September 18, 2008

Just when I got my new contacts!  Glasses are in!

OUR NEW HEADER

September 17, 2008

…is in honour of the anniversary of our first kiss – September 17th, 2005.  We made spaghetti.  We ate chocolate cake…  blah blah blah.

Hope you like!

SHOOT ME

September 16, 2008

…if you ever see me wearing this:

MORE TRAILERS: DOUBT, NIGHTS, AND SOLOS

September 12, 2008

DOUBT – It looks like a bouquet of stellar performances.  I only hope I can get past the bonnets!

NIGHTS IN RODANTHE – They should have come up with a title that people can pronounce.  Only for the romantics!  Made me cry.

THE SOLOIST – It seems more than one trailer made me cry today.  More fabulous acting promised.

TRAILER: THE LUCKY ONES

September 12, 2008

THE LUCKY ONES – Could this be the first war movie that people actually watch?  It seems genuine, funny and sincere.  Poor song choice, but good cast.

ORU LAWSUIT: INTERESTING SUMMARY

September 8, 2008

Christianity Today posted an interesting summary about the past year at ORU.  I recommend.

At the end, they link to Mart Green’s website.  It’s full of good little tidbits about the man who is forging a bold new path in evangelical documentary-makingMiss HIV.

I think it’s exciting that the new Chair of the Board of Trustees is involved in creating cultural offerings like this one!

OOPS! I DID IT AGAIN!

September 5, 2008

Oops!
… I did it again.
I ran at mid-day.
Got lost in the heat.
Oh, Nike; Nike.
Oops!
… You think I’m a schmuck.
That I get dehydrated…
I’m not that disciplined.

This is my ode to running at 11:30 AM in August / September in Southern California.  Every time I get out there and I tell myself, “next time get out here earlier.”  And every time, it’s nearly 11:30 AM by the time I make it outdoors.  Frankly, it’s the time of day that my body prefers to run, but it’s certainly not the ideal temperature.  It’s TOO HOT!  It was 83′F when I left home this morning and 86′F when I returned.  I should learn from my mistakes.

For the record, I’m currently running in Mizunos.  I love them.

WHITE WINE GLASS

September 3, 2008

I just broke a white wine glass.  It was from our honeymoon – one of those complimentary wine glasses from ‘the room.’  We have a huge set of red wine glasses from our wedding gift registry.  In fact, we’d received two sets of twelve and had to return one set.  So yes, we have twelve red wine glasses.  We only have four white wine glasses.  All four were from our honeymoon – two were from Grgich Hills and two were from the place we stayed.  Now we have three because of the one I broke.  And in its place, I have a sense of loss.

I know it’s silly.  I know it doesn’t matter.  It’s just a wine glass.  But I place sentimental value on such things.  I’m a recovering pack rat.  And I cried.  Then I stepped in the broken glass while trying to clean it up and, as is my habit when I step on dirt in the kitchen, I subconsciously tried to wipe the dirt off using the top of my other foot.  And now the top of my other foot is bleeding.

The thing is, I broke the glass because it was sitting with the dirty dishes that we didn’t finish cleaning last night and I knocked it with my elbow opening a door I didn’t need to open to get the pepper I didn’t need to get to fill the pepper mill that I discovered upon opening didn’t need filling.  So this was not a wound sustained in the battle of dishwashing or revelry.  This was needless.  Unnecessary.  Proof of silliness and clutz.

The other thing that is bothering me is: now my organized glass cupboard will be ‘off.’  I should be grateful for such trivial woes!

ORU LAWSUIT: WHO’S WHO?

September 1, 2008

In case you’re starting to get everyone confused (there’s lots of names!), the Lavender Liberals have put together a comprehensive outline of the Brooker’s witness list plus other key people connected to ORU.  They’re full of opinions, but it’s a good list.

UPDATE: Just a note, not every name tagged here or included in the Lavender Liberals’ list is named on the Brooker’s witness list or list of defendants.  This is a list of key people related to ORU or the lawsuit, which includes names of defendants and names on the witness list.

ORU LAWSUIT: AFFIDAVIT AND SHADY

September 1, 2008

A new source has stepped forward, adding strength to Huddleston’s case, according to Muchmore and the TulsaWorld.  Key quotes:

Donations to the Oral Roberts Ministry were deposited into an unmarked, miscellaneous account and various other ORU accounts, despite their earmarks, according to the affidavit of a former ministry employee and ORU student.

Vanessa Patrick alleges in the affidavit that she once handled a $500 donation meant for a student who could not otherwise afford to go to ORU but which was instead deposited into a miscellaneous account.

When she went to supervisors to report the irregularities, she was intimidated and told, “This is the way things work. If you don’t like the way it works, then you can leave,” according to the affidavit.

Patrick has [since] resigned and left the ministry and the university.

In all honesty, this happened to me once as well.  I sent in a moderate donation to be used for one department and got a thank you card from another department.  As appreciative as I was to get the thank you card, I was still a little upset that my donation hadn’t gone to the department for which it’d been intended.  I certainly hope that, under new leadership, donations will be routed appropriately.

In other news, ORU Slim Shady* has a new track out.  Enjoy!

* You had to be at or around ORU in 1999(?) to know about ORU Slim Shady.
