Mark Ellis that is. Ryan and I made the long trip from Sunset Plaza, where we parked, to The Comedy Store, where our friend Mark Ellis was doing a set in The Belly Room. Read the rest of this entry »
CITY OF THE ANGELS FILM FESTIVAL
September 28, 2007Ryan and I are on the planning committee for the City of the Angels Film Festival. Historically, it’s been a retrospective film festival and this year they’ve changed things up a bit to include several premiers (LA and otherwise). Exciting! Read the rest of this entry »
MARCEL MARCEAU
September 27, 2007Note: I didn’t know how to write this post without laughing; but I think he would have wanted it that way…

How to spot a Hipster
September 25, 2007Step 1: Know what kind of hipster you’re looking for. To that end, see this (in my opinion) comprehensive list of hipsters assembled by the very smart & scholarly Brett McCracken. There’s three parts…
Step 2: Visit their native habitat.
Step 3: Step 3 is really cool. You probably haven’t heard of it yet, but by the time you do, the hipsters will have moved on to Step 4, because it is much cooler.
GRIFFIN HOUSE
September 25, 2007When we went to see OtR the other night, we were pleasantly surprised by a phenomenal opener – Griffin House. He expertly controlled the crowd all by his lonesome with a guitar, executed a fabulous cover of Johnny Cash, and wowed us all with his musical and performance prowess. Check him out!
I’ve added his blog to our blogroll on the right.
SERVICE-PROFIT CHAIN
September 25, 2007Phil Cooke posted a link to a list about why Amazon has been so successful. Apart from the door-desks, I have to agree with the statements!
Thanks Phil!
OH! HI!
September 22, 2007Today, Ryan and I took a quick drive up the coast to Ojai.

Here we are at the overlook, viewsight, vista point or whatever you call that thingy. We’re sooo fabulous!
…
Here’s a shot of the clouds in the valley…

…
Then we met up with friends at the Griffith Observatory!

…where I learned that cosmic rays are really high-energy particles. AND that DOZENS of them there high-energy particles PASS THRU MY BODY EVERY SECOND! That freaked me out. It’s still freaking me out. Dozens of cosmic rays (aka high-energy particles) are passing through my body… every second. Wow.
…
Here’s the telescope…

And here’s the LA skyline from the top of the Griffith Observatory!

Because it’s been raining, you can see forever. The view was amazing!
Ciao!
Oh, the horror….

I DON’T WANT TO WASTE YOUR TIME WITH MUSIC YOU DON’T NEED
September 21, 2007…speaking of music, PLEASE CLICK HERE.
Our FAVOURITE band, Over the Rhine, just came out with a new ALL-bum (as Ryan likes to say) called “The Trumpet Child” and it’s fabulous. Simply fabulous. Read those reviews!
In fact, we saw them tonight in concert at The Knitting Factory, in Hollywood. They were so scrumptiously good that I cried. Literally, tears of appreciation and joy were flowing down my cheeks. Tears!
Much love, OtR.
P.S. They have their own blend too!
IF GREEN COULD TALK…

WHAT’S YER BEEF?
September 21, 2007Houston’s up in arms about Alicia’s ad, bereft of beef. Bereft of clothes too!
MORE DISCUSSION ABOUT KATHY GRIFFIN
September 21, 2007Phil Cooke had something to say.
UPDATE: It looks like the third comment is from a cast member of Miracle Theater. It seems to me that he didn’t clearly understand Phil’s question.
THE CANADIAN DOLLAR FINALLY BECAME A MAN
September 21, 2007Re-born in 1976, the Canadian dollar has finally reach maturity. Now it can play with the big boys!
I think I’m proud. Ryan and I are trying to figure out how to work this to our financial advantage. I still have Canadian bank accounts.
BOB BARKER’S INSPIRATION
September 20, 2007My friend Heather had insight from a gaggle of would-be audience members in June. Read her thoughts here.
THIS SHOULD BE REQUIRED BEACH WEAR
September 20, 2007I think it’s most interesting that in today’s word of Kyla and Twitney that we also have people like this who are so devoted!
My friend Darren found it first.
